Description

This video contains spoilers for Game of Thrones!* On the penultimate episode of Game of Thrones, viewers weren’t the only ones who seemingly lost their minds. While attacking King’s Landing, Daenerys Targaryen went full-on Mad Queen and went from hero to villain in the Je suis chiante mais vous ne connaissez pas encore ma fille shirt blink of an eye. But was this shocking twist earned or did it come out of nowhere? Let’s break it down on today’s Nerdist News Edition. Glad to see the casuals are laying off on the clickbait critique. we still have the final episode to go, to see the repercussions, & I’m confident that in retrospect this final season thus far is nothing short of an epic, tragically beautiful conclusion.  This did not happen “in the blink of an eye”. This was coming from miles away… for 7 seasons! Dany lost many Dothraki, Unsullied, Rhaegal, Jon’s romantic love and Missandei (and Vary’s loyalty) in the matter of a short time. It is only natural that she would become lost in her pain, grief and anger. Her suffering has led her down a dark path which there is no turning back from now.

It was always going to happen. the point was to make you see her first as a person and not a villain and understand her in a complex way before ripping it all away from you when you finally think she’s won and the story has it’s hero. it was perfect. this was the song of ice and fire. ice – the night king, an objective bad guy. fire- the targeryens, daenerys with dragon power, the villain we never thought could ever go bad. two sides of the same coin and introduced in two totally opposite ways. the night king was one dimensional in his presentation. he was just a bad guy daenerys felt one dimensional at points being this saviour figure but she woul aways do and say things that made me not trust her intentions. i NEVER tursted her and fully expected her to turn. but there were ints where i felt maybe i was being too harsh on her, nope, i was right. this is absolutely the Je suis chiante mais vous ne connaissez pas encore ma fille shirt most brilliant concealing of the true enemy ever. and the true enemy isnt daenerys so to speak, but the lethal combination of the thirst for power (the iron throne, specifically), the power to take it and the fragulity of the mind of someone whose ENTIRE FIXATION was on ruling and nothing else. what happens when you strip someone like that of everything they use to identify themselves? who is she without her armies? her dragons?

Her advisors who always convince her to take the route of peace and mercy, not war? who is she when you take away the one truth she has always known, her claim to the throne? who is she? truly? as a character she has no real personality aside from the things she attaches her sense of self to. what hapens when all of tha is striped away? what does she become? think about it and tell me if her going mad is truly out of character? i also LOVE the fact that the writers did not try to soften her or rationalise her actions because she is a woman. she is a dragon. fire made flesh and this is the song of ice and fire.
